A test was conducted to measure perforation performance in a sandstone target.

For this test, two identical sandstone targets were prepared. A test apparatus was configured to test fire a conventional shaped charge of known performance with and without a ReCo™ propellant cap. The test was conducted at room temperature and atmospheric conditions.

After the sandstone targets were perforated, molten aluminum was poured into the target entry holes to create a mold of the perforation tunnels. The results show that the composite charge created a tunnel with significant improvement in both penetration and perforation tunnel volume. The mold from the composite charge shows the presence of a fractured-wing along one axis of the target.
